Vimbai is a Junior Program Associate on the Lapis Graduate Program in the 2017 cohort.
Vimbai was a teaching assistant in the School of Journalism at Rhodes University, in addition to being a producer for radio shows for the South African National Arts Festival. She has worked as a freelance journalist both in Zimbabwe and South Africa and continues to run a personal blog today.
During her Masters programme in 2016, Vimbai delivered a TedX talk at the University of Edinburgh entitled “Writing ourselves into history”, focusing on the importance of acknowledging the multitude of African histories and voices on online platforms in a digital age.
Vimbai completed her undergraduate degree at Rhodes University in South Africa in Journalism and Political & International studies. She also holds a Masters degree from Edinburgh University in African and International Development. Her masters research focused on the informal economy and its effect on women’s empowerment in urban Harare, particularly looking at women vendors and their use of public space as a tool for empowerment. She is fluent in English and Shona, with an intermediate level of French.
