Country Directors are resourceful team leaders who use high-level strategic thinking, and contextual analysis to develop and deliver business development, project management and communications solutions. They own program portfolios and become trusted advisors to an array of our international clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop robust, impeccably designed programs and deliver their implementation to the highest quality 
  • Proactively engage new and existing clients to deepen relationships and develop new business 
  • Source and manage project partners and subcontractors and oversee logistics and procurement with administrative support 
  • Maintain an intimate working knowledge of potential partner network, from local civil society organizations, to broadcasters to production houses 
  • Represent Lapis at external meetings and networking events 
  • Build the Lapis brand through conferences, speaking engagements and publishing case studies, white papers, and online thought content  
  • Identify strategic and innovative programming opportunities that are aligned with the Lapis business strategy 
  • Help design program interventions, including new and innovative initiatives to support different ongoing and new projects 
  • Help lead efforts to effectively monitor and evaluate different programs of Lapis and document program learnings 
  • Facilitate effective communications between Lapis office in Kabul and its other regional offices regarding program activities, business development initiatives and networking 
  • Serve as representative of Lapis in Afghanistan, which will require liaising with relevant officials of the embassies and donor communities, the Government of Afghanistan, civil society organizations, academic institutions, media entities and other partners 
  • Manage partnerships with different clients and developing ideas for potential programming, and assisting in drafting of project concept notes and proposals 
  • Develop and maintain productive contacts with relevant Afghan government agencies and institutions 
  • Manage Lapis’ budget in an effective and accountable manner and ensure that financial reporting is timely and accurate 
  • Manage program budgets, cash flows, and team-wide adherence to compliance protocols 
  • Manage Lapis’ operations and provide effective managerial, administrative, financial, and logistical leadership and support for the successful implementation of Lapis’ portfolio in Afghanistan

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Ten years work experience at senior level in project management, Strategic Communications, and/or international development required 
  • Master’s degree in International Business/International Relations/Business Management with strong academic record 
  • Strong track record of business savvy entrepreneurialism, strategic thinking, and analytical prowess 
  • Exceptional ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment 
  • Persuasive presentation abilities and impeccable written and oral communications skills 
  • Exceptional ability to engage clients and establish, deepen, and grow relationships 
  • Working knowledge of financial reporting, project management, policy issues and business administration 
  • Experience in developing and delivering robust measurement and evaluation of complex programs 
  • Commitment to and passion for positive change in Afghanistan 
  • Experience in donor and government reporting and coordination 
  • Established networks of donors, civil society and private sector contacts in Afghanistan 
  • Comprehensive understanding of the political, social, business environment and media landscape in the country  
  • Relevant experience in managing country programs, including grants and project management, personnel management, and proposal development and report-writing 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, including the ability to deal effectively with counterparts on all political, social, and economic levels 
  • Written and spoken Dari/Pashto proficiency strongly preferred
